Weird Air Suspension???

Yesterday I noticed the car was riding very rough and when I returned home I noticed the back wheels were about an inch up inside the wheel wells??:confused:

I turned the ignition on and the familiar air pump sound commenced but only for about 3 seconds followed by a "PSHHHHHHH" then pumping again and "PSHHHHHHH".....and so on and on and on!!:cool: After about a minute of this foolishness I started it up and drove around a bit but the rear end would not raise off the axle!!:mad2: :argue:

This AM it was the same thing.....So I messed with the air pump to no avail and then jacked the rear up to see if for some reason the sender arm had slipped off or something??:confused: It looked fine so I disconnected one end and moved it through the entire range of motion about a dozen times.....like cleaning a variable resistor...which I guess it is??

I reconnected it and started the car to let it run while I went back in the house......When I returned it was jacked up in the rear like it is supposed to be (about a inch of daylight above the tire) and the pump was not cycling as before.....MAGIC!!!!:bows:

What the heck was that all about?? Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior??:confused: :shake:

Unless it's too expensive, you probably should go ahead and change the sensor.

If it's like a scratchy potentiometer, moving it back and forth will "clear" it for a bit, but the problem will return.

That reminds me, I was looking into switching in some resistors to raise or lower the car, I'll have to get back to that.
 
Just like any other sensor it can go bad very quickly or just over time. Like Wires said if its not too expensive replace, always troubleshoot problems by replacing the cheapiest things 1st and then moving up the expensive line.

The attention these cars ALL get is amazing!! It's just a "Buck Board" ride ain't acceptable to me??:help:

I'll contact my dealer to see how much that doo-hickey is??:confused:

My pump has just started making a horrendous noise. It starts out normal, but then sounds like it's loose or something, and just rattles the whole car, and runs for much longer than normal. Just one more thing to add to the list of things going out. Charger here I come!
 
Maybe it's time to start exploring air suspension options, with driver controlled functions?
 
Update......

The silly thing is working fine for now??:confused:

I think I'll get another sender though.....just incase the old one starts it's foolishness again!!:argue:

I believe there is a TSB that will fix that rattle.
 
If It Is The Rear Height Sensor It Runs About 49 Bucks. It Has Been Updated About 4 Times. Price Isn't Too Bad. You Might Want To Start There.
 
Well, finally tracked down a compressor from a dealer in Columbus, WI. These things are all back-ordered until July. All fixed and working ok now. At least this part lasted 67K miles!
