245/55-18

Please help me.

My mechanic suggested Nitto XL420 size 255/50R18.

He says that when you increase the Width you need to go down a size on the profile. He says it results in a 2% difference.

Is this true? From everything I see on this site, people are using 255/55R18 maintaining the same specs from OE except for the width.

I'm running General Grabber UHPs 255/55/18 on the rear and OEM BFGs on the front and am pleased with performance and wear so far. Have had them on for about eight months.

The OEMs are a 28.6 inch dia, 255/50/18 are 28 inch dia and the 255/55/18 are 29 inch dia. You should be OK with one up or down.

FWIW, I run Hankook WINTER tires on 4 steel rims and have been pleased with thier performance even after 4 winters. I would hope that their All-Season tires would be as good or better (e.g., VENTUS AS RH07 255/55 R18 109V SBL).

And you're not having any ABS, traction control or speedometer issues?

May be off just a touch on the speedo, but otherwise no problems.

Great, thanks for the info. Has anyone bought from discounttiredirect.com? Comments?

I've bought my last two sets of tires through our local discount tire store, very pleased with the service and their workmanship. They're a reputable company, so I don't think you'll have any problems dealing with them.

Have bought from them before with no problems. I run the Nitto 420S 225/55/18 and love them, great tire, works just fine with OEM fronts. My speedo is spot on accurate with them.

I purchased my front BFG g-forces and my rear Nitto 420s from Discount Tire and I have been very pleased. Fast shipping and comparable pricing gives them a thumbs up in my book.

Anyone know if 255/45-18 would be ok? Would i have any issues?

255-55-18 is the new preferred rear size to most of the members

255/45/08 is a little more that 1.5" shorter than stock and a little over .2" shorter than the stock fronts

sorry I missed that and made confusion

WILL NOT work on a 04 due to TC. the 245/55/18 is .3" SMALLER than the 235/50/18. No worky unless you want to drive with the TC turned off and may still cause problems with the ABS. Go to 255/55/18 and no problems.

255/55/18=yes

sorry

Has anyone run the same size on front and rear for a 04 with T/C? I am thinking about running 235/55/18 on all four corners, but am unsure of T/C. Any help would be appreciated.

I did it and if you don't turn the TC off every time you start the car....you won't exceed 40-45 MPH......it cuts the power.....GREAT theft deterrent though!!!

What sizes are you running now? I was also looking at 245/50/18 for front and 255/55/18 for rear.

On a 04 MM your rears need to be approx 1.3" taller than your fronts. Use this site to determine if the tires you want will work:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I know its a Miata site, but the calculator is accurate.

FWIW, some of us are running the OEM fronts with Nitto 255/55/18 rears and are happy with the performance. Its your car and your money, so do as you will.
