245/55-18

Well, I took the plunge and just put the Nittos' on my '03. The rears were not quite down to the warning bars on the BFG's but with spring coming up and the KY meet, I was not comfortable with them. The BFG's were not the greatest on wet pavement with lots 'o tread, so worn they are even worse. I am done with BFG, they obviously don't care about us and the feeling is mutual.

Smart man, I don't think you'll regret your decision.

Lots of good info here, guys! I just spent a while reading all the posts here after discovering the OE tires are no longer on Tire Rack and the other big online dealers. I'm nearing replacement time on my rear tires (just over 19k on my 03 300B) and have been looking. I'm disappointed in the poor mileage on the rear tires. I don't spin them-leave TC on almost all the time. The fronts are fine. Looks like moving up to 255/45-18s on the rear is a reasonable solution but I'd like to stay under 200 apiece for tires. Has anyone had experience w/ Goodyears? I see just now that Tire Rack has a great price on Eagle LS-2's at $108 each (400AA rating), followed by an Eagle ResponseEdge at $174 (440AA rating). Also of interest in price/UTQG is a Kuhmo Solus KH16 at $150 (440AA) and a Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical at $107 (340 AA). My experience w/ one set of Dunlops on a '98 BMW 5 series was poor wear and noisy, while a set on an '04 3 series looks like new after 15k. Given the possible scarcity of Marauder rear tires, I thought about buying 4 of the LS-2's to have a pair for the future (bonus here of the $40 rebate on buying 4!). Looks like our rear tires wear out twice as fast as the fronts. I'd appreciate hearing your experience w/ any of these brands. Thanks!

I am on my 4th set of rears. Have run the BFG KDWS since my MM was new and got 21K, 18K, and 21K out of them each time. The 2nd set was swapped a little early. This time I decided to go with the Eagle F1 GS-D3 in the 255/55ZR18 size since they are still within the tolerance for no T/C or ABS issues. Have only had them on since about 9 AM this morning -- but they do feel fine and look good.

I went with Falken Ziex S/TZ01 255/55/18. Its a sport truck tire but has a matching OE size front available. Smoother and quieter than the stock BFGs ever were.

What is the speed rating? Does the front size speed rating match the rears?

I gave up waiting for the BFGs and then the Falkens so I went with the Michelin MXM4 front and back, V rated. Sp far so good!

Both front and rear sizes have a W speed rating. I haven't swapped out the fronts yet because I need new rear control arms and rear end links. Ordering my Metcos and rear Addco bar this week.

I ordered them through my mechanic who does my lazy work for me (i hate fluid changes) and he had them the next day no problem. Not sure how it is in the great white north but the Falkens are readily available everywhere down here plus you can buy them from Tire Rack or any equivalent outlet. I ordered them through my mechanic because he was only $5 more than Tire Rack plus no delivery fees and he warranties them for me. Free balancing is also a plus because I'm in there having it done every other oil change wether it is needed or not. Tampa area roads suck and I drive 32 miles each way.

:mad2:I don't know which thread this should go on so please forgive me. Just got the oil changed on my MM 04 and the mechanic showed me oil leaking from both rear Axel seals on to the inside of the rims has anyone heard seen or had this problem?? Is it under an extended warranty. Has there been a service bulletin or a recall. I need help I don't want to have to shell out big bucks if I can avoid it

You need to replace the axle seals. I would have to go look, but it wasn't too exspensive. Its a fairly common problem. Be happy you don't have a 03 because then you'd probably need new axles.

Just came from discount tire. Was going to replace the valve stems but noticed the tires are too dry-rotted.. only 12000 miles on them..:(

And big surprise, BFGs are on backorder. So again, just to make sure we understand this correctly, the 255/55/18 for rears will be fine with Traction Control and ABS on an 04?

I just talked to Sears who in turned talked to BFG who say that the rear 245 55 18 tires will be delivered to Sears by next Friday. I would go for the 255 55 18 tires but the aftermarket rims fit the 245's without problems and the 255 may rub my fenders.

I now was told my tire delivery will be in June. I still will not hold my breath.
