Made my DTR even slower

I think I'll get kicked out of here after this post, but here goes.

Not only did I buy the absolute slowest, worst-handling MM ever, a DTR (see a hilarious thread on that subject in here), but now I have gone and added some Splash Guards.

For those of you who can avoid being nauseated by this, I'll add a couple of pics to show you how I ruined my ride.

I tried painting them body color with a twist, to match up with the black plastic on the rockers. Painting plastic is a trip, but not too hard once you get educated from You Tube.

Take a look, and if I get Disgraced and Dismissed, it was good being with you guys while it lasted. ;)

I'm not a 'splash guard' lover....but that is an interesting way to blend them in!
Not bad at all.

Around here I mostly see dorks in Subaru WRXs with oversized, poor fitting and improperly mounted splash guards....sometimes painted hideous neon colors....:puke:

molded splash guards that hug the body hold dirt, moisture, salt etc and generally cause rust sooner than later in my opinion

I think it looks good. But why the two tone in the front?

Because it matches the two tone car it is attached to. He matched the "black" underbody.

The rear splash guard is all DTR to match the rear bumper.

Great work on the splasgaurds! I like your two-tone guards up front. Mice job?

I like them, been looking for those kind for the drag strip, plus I work in a huge gravel zone, so I'd like to get them.

Looks good! The flaps on my new Marauder caused the bottom of the fenders to rot out, cheap dirt and moisture collectors is all they are. Yours look much better quality!

where I got them

Thanks for the feedback and it looks like I'm not kicked out. Hoo-Rah!

The two tone was indeed to line up with the black plastic rocker trim. No rocker trim on the back so I painted those all-body-color, that being the slow-as-molasses DTR.

Got them as Ford OEM parts from two different sources. Note this, though. Somehow it seems the Ford computers goofed up the splash guards and you can't talk the online folks out of giving you the wrong stuff.

The fronts can be ordered as Marauder / GM guards, no problem. Got them from Ford Parts Giant out of California, but I don't recommend these guys because of how they handled the back ones. They sent the wrong ones after I gave them the correct P/N and then slapped me with a restocking charge to take them back.

I finally got the backs from either random eBay or Tasca Ford Parts, not sure which.

Ford parts folks - and their computers - say that the part numbers for the back are for Grand Marquis, and this is incorrect. The MM back cap's shape mimics the Crown Vic and the only guards that fit are slightly different Crown Vic guards. You have to argue this with folks and it gets tiring. The guards on my car actually have a small Ford logo on them because of this, but it is hard to see.

Re the comment on rust, yeah that bothers me. The back ones mount to plastic so no problem. I used SS fasteners all around. On the fronts which mount part to plastic and part to metal I used liberal amounts of silicone to isolate the holes, and will watch closely. Hated drilling into the precious fender lip, but gotta break eggs to have breakfast.

Here are the correct part numbers. Prices vary but I spent around $100 for the 2 pairs and about $20 for the paint and plastic high adhesion primer. Credit to this forum and the folks on it for lining me out on these.

Another hint/tip ... Apply beads of silicone to the entire mounting surfaces of the front guards so that they are sealed against the fender lip, ergo preventing dirt, small stones, salt, road debri, etc. to accumulate and cause rusting.
.

certain silicones release acids..I wouldn't silicone anything, twice a year remove them and clean behind.

+1!

When I cared about my now 295,000 mile Ranger, I would pull off the OEM splash guards once a year then wash and wax the metal behind them. No rust problems after many winters.

Now.....the rear fender wheel arches....that's another story!

Hated drilling a fender lip? Try doing the floor! [emoji15]

It’s just metal. It can always be reconfigured. [emoji16]

That’s a nice air hose you have there. Or were you not happy to see me?

Sent from the White House on the tax payers dime.

painting black

I like it.

ps I would like it even better if you painted the whole car Black.

sailsmen,

You know, leaving that little bit of the splash guard black gave me another tenth of a second 0 to 60. Maybe you're onto something. Give me a few rattle cans and I'll get started.
