Magnaflow Mufflers

I really like that deep bass growl sound on Chip Foose's Overhauled hot rods. He usually put's in maganaflows on hotrod overhauls. Can this be achieved by switching out the 2 stock mufflers and putting in magnaflow mufflers. I like the magnaflow sound. Has anyone done this, and if so what are the specific dimensions that I would need. I don't want to change out the whole exhaust system that's why I was thinking of just switching to magnaflow mufflers. It might not even be possible.

You can increase volume and sound, but "deep base growl" and a 4.6L DOHC engine don't really go hand in hand; you want that sound, you prolly need go to a larger displacement pushrod V8... ;)

Isn't that what magnaflow is known for "that deep bass growl"? Spell check got me again.

18 inch ones will probably be closer to the sound you're looking for, but not that big block sound, since these motors are revvers.

Yeah, but you've got to have an engine that will generate the sound for the mufflers to work with. The 4.6L DOHC engine doesn't sound the same as, say, a cammed BBC.

That said, Magnaflows, rear cat delete, and resonator delete tips will make your car sound louder and meaner, but not necessarily like a Foose car.

Bare with me because I'm new to all this stuff and want to be led in the right direction. But what size magnaflow mufflers, what does rear cat delete mean and and are resonator delete tips a brand, and if so what size?

Larger diameter piping will also make a difference for a deeper, more bass-rich tone, but as was already stated, this motor isn't one that is naturally deep in tone.

So magnaflow mufflers would probably be a waste of money without a bigger motor and or thicker exhaust piping.

If you haven't already done so, attend some local/regional events. You can get a diverse sampling of pretty much all that has been done to a Marauder exhaust wise. Nothing like hearing them in person. Willing to bet all will be glad to talk about what they've done to acheive they're particular sound.

Not at all. The packing material inside the mags plus the larger piping and delete tips will lend to a deeper tone as oppose to the all metal componetry of the others. I would also say keep the H pipe.

IIRC it's the 18" case 2 1/8" off center inlet by 2 1/8" center outlet. Probably have to go with 2 1/4" and just weld them in.

Rear cat delete = cut off the rear catalytic converters and replace with straight pipe. Your computer will not know a difference and no tune required. Most shops have no problem doing this and most pay around $30-$40 for labor and material.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to help. Just to make sure,The first dimensions are for the magnaflow mufflers? I'm going to go onto their site tomorrow and get the correct materials.

what Waymon said

I have the 18" Magnaflows. Good sound but not a BBC. Also have 2 1/2" all the way back, X pipe, no Megs deletes, & and no 2nd cats, with a stroker motor

I like the way my Magnaflow 18s sound, 2 1/2 mid pipes with no cats, shorties, stock from the mufflers back, even stock tips.
Much better sound, deeper and meaner when you step on the loud pedal.

Yes, I wish there were more videos examples of this on YouTube. I could only find a couple.

Exactly what I have in this video.
