Magnaflow Mufflers

We did a LOT of experimenting with my exhaust......first just Magnaflow 18's and it was deeper but very quiet (the SS packing does go away in time but couldn't wait) so we took out the H-Pipe next and replaced with an X-Pipe and it sounded way too "ZIPPY" kind of like 2 mad Hondas with "fart cans"!!:argue::mad2:

Next we went with a nice larger H-Pipe with 2 Hi-Flow Magnaflow cats and BINGO.......to me it was perfect......still have the stock tips and exhaust manifolds.....ZERO DRONE too...after adding the CV exhaust dampers!!

As stated before....Magnaflows get louder in time.....almost 7 years and 160,000 miles later.......JUST RIGHT!!:D

They are weights that bolt to the flange where the down-pipe meets the H-Pipe.....left and right sides are specific!! Can get them from any bone yard that has Cop cars.....CHEAP!!

The Marauder had them welded to the OEM mufflers......TAF at Grand Muffler told me to lave them off but they really help subdue rattles and drone......believe me....all my noise in now.......OUT BACK!!

I have a photo somewhere if you need to see 'em??

Yes please show us.

Interesting. Like sound dampeners.

BigCowl- Do you have any of these?

If you scroll down this sub forum there are before/after video's I took of the 14" magnaflows I installed.

MM exhaust specs.

I just had my MM on my new hoist, and measured for mufflers. My (still OEM) 2003 has 2 cat converters on each side, and 4 O2 sensors (front & rear on each side). The mufflers are 21" long, ~10" wide, & ~6" thick/tall. The system is 2 1/4" od until it gets to the H-pipe, which is 2" od, and the (smooth bend) tailpipes are 2 1/4" od, to the resonator inlets. The muffler inlets are offset, and the outlets are centered.

I used Magnaflow #12256 stainless mufflers on my 2000 Crown Vic. They are 2 1/2" inlet & outlet, offset on one end, centered on the other, and can be installed to flow either way (reversible). They measure 18" long, 8" wide, and 5" thick/tall.

I recommend you only change out the stock mufflers, and use the (2 1/2") #12256 Magnaflows. It is a simple job for any exhaust shop, and the Magnaflows will fit, with adapters, which any shop can weld in. They are fairly quiet, and will still work/fit later if you go with bigger (2 1/2") pipes. By modifying in stages, you can see how you like the sound, and make it louder as you go.

I'm 61 years old, and prefer a not-too-loud system. Especially so as not to attract the attention of officer friendly.

Magnaflows VS Flowmasters

Video courtesy of Sanco.
My 2002 P71 on the left, the first one to rev up, with stock diameter pipes and h pipe with Magnaflow High Flow Cats (all 4 of them) and Magnaflow mufflers with chrome tips (not Megs or MM)
Sanco's 04 P71,on the right, with larger diameter pipes,X pipe and Flowmasters,.
See video caption for more info.
Pick what sounds best to you.
Mind you these are both P71's,NOT MM's.

I loved my steel Mag's when I had my OEM exhaust. Lots of compliments. Stainless Works muffs are very good in their full system with headers, but I think stainless Mag muffs would sound better. Will switch back when $$ for stainless Mag's is available.

Yeah, but you've got to have an engine that will generate the sound for the mufflers to work with. The 4.6L DOHC engine doesn't sound the same as, say, a cammed BBC.

That said, Magnaflows, rear cat delete, and resonator delete tips will make your car sound louder and meaner, but not necessarily like a Foose car.
Good note ## I had the Magnaflows installed along with 4' tips , real nice sound over stock. later had the rear cats removed .The car had a Bass' sound at Idle and a loud rumble when stomped on. , the drone was annoying so I removed the Magna's and put the stock Muffs back on.
I have since installed an X pipe system that lowered the exhaust sound, and noticed better mid range and top end performance, I later observed 142 mph in drive ,over drive was turned off Rpm was past 5000 with 355 gearing:burnout: Reinhart Tune with a minor 2 degree tweak and shift adjustment
