Polishing aluminium engine parts?

I am pretty pleased with the how well the upper intake looks after applying some elbow grease and Mothers "Incredible Billet Metal Polish" to it. Take a look see.

The upper was as nasty as the alternator looks, and don't even mention the lower. I'm going to work on those next. I guess this is what four years of "not doing anything special" does to the aluminum parts. I used an old tooth brush to work on the more stubborn stains on the upper, but the polish did most of the work. A couple more sessions and I should have the engine bay presentable.

That Mothers is some good stuff, but does anybody have any suggestions on what to use to get into the visible crevasses of the lower intake? I can see 'em, but damn if I can get to much with a toothbrush.

Is removing the lower an option?

Want my old one that is sitting in a box collecting dust? It only has less than 6K on it.

The yellow looks... :puke:

But the silver looks... :banana2:

My opinion of course... :)

Gee, and I was just wondering where FiveO has been.

Thanks for the offer Charlie. I'll eventually have both the upper and lower blasted and powercoated when I have the bottom end built, but right now I'm just looking to shine the engine compartment up a bit for the random car show or get-together.

I've been tossing around the idea of pulling the blower and the alternator to have better access to the front of the engine. You know how these things start. Sounds like a really fun weekend project.

BTW, your going to love my lower grill mod.

JD,

Congrats on that ! looks very clean. Have you used any electrical tool to help do this or is it just rags and tootbrush ?

No gizmos, just what you said there and the Mothers. Work it in with a rag or toothbrush and wipe it down until it stops coming up black. I had to use a screwdriver covered in cloth to get down around the throttle body, but a quick buff with a rag after the residue hazes up and it's done.

I've been using that stuff on my blower for awhile so I know it handles heat ok, so I got the idea of trying it on the upper and it made a clean spot. You know the rest story from there, lol.

Clean spot. I hate it when that happens.

So, what you're really doing here is confessing that you made a mistake and then had to do the whole thing because you have an obsession when it comes to this car.

I can relate. Good job man! U da bom tudae.
