Spray it...for now

I have a ZEX wet system (20 pound bottle), on the Blue and have never used it. Looks good in the engine bay. Maybe I should pipe it to the driver, would make me feel like I am going faster.

i've thought of piping a vacuum hose underneath the steering wheel to make me feel good....about keeping my motor running:lol:
 
blown 3.8 seems to know his stuff! i talked to him at mv9's car show, and when/hopefully get money(just waiting on the verdict) im looking to spray my car and have him/his shop do the work. i have 119,000 on mine, and from what i hear a zex wet kit is the way to go. he told me to also to get a fuel pump upgrade.

i would like to jump in on this post....i was going to write almost the same post except im not going to get a supercharger....my vehicle is my DD also, iv'e been told the cast pistons will burn up/hole through them and to get forged pistons. my question is....what should i do to make my car completely reliable if i get nitrous? my car drives very smooth, and the only issues iv'e had was at ~97,000 i replaced the COP's, and at 107,000 i had to have the tranny repaired which at that time i had my mechanic do the j-mod. i have an sct xcal2 so tuning shouldn't be an issue. everything else is stock, what parts should i get to go with the nitrous?

Look at my signature. Was my daily driver with a 80-100 shot.

Was alot of fun in rush hour.

Not currently. Was running 18psi from a trilogy with 250 shot of nitrous on a cobra short block. This is Sherms car.

Right now the car has a 2.3 whipple at 21psi and the fuel pumps are maxed out so no go on the juice right now.

I also recommend a fuel pump upgrade for the N2O or a boost a pump.

I WONDER WHY DR RECOMMENDED A NOS BRAND KIT UNLESS THAT IS ZEX OF SOME SORT :confused: ...NOW I SEE I AM NOT ALONE IN THE "WANT TO SPRAY BUT UNEDUCATED AND PRECAUTIONARY MOVES ABOUT IT" KEEP THE GOOD INFO COMING FOR US WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM YOU ALL HELPFUL POSTS

i have had just nos on the car and still do on the current setup - it is for track use only - i would not run it on a car with a boat load of miles - you must have a tune for nos - Zex wet kit is what i run
if you want to see the setup come to the tower shos one night

I wouldn't worry about the high mileage, a few friends of mine have been spraying cars with over 200k on the clock.

However, I also wouldn't use nitrous unless it was for track use only. It's too unreliable for daily street use as the bottle always seems to be empty when you least expect it, or the bottle pressure isn't high enough to make good use of it. You also don't want to lift and get back into it if you lose traction, as you could easily hit the rev limiter or have a lean condition that could potentially blow up the motor; something more likely to happen on the street than a prepped track with sticky tires.

Just save up for a supercharger, the extra power will always be there without the payment plan of refilling the bottle.

the problem with a supercharger is MPG for me, im driving 45 miles one way each day to work, and i'd like to keep the 21 mpg(at best) that i get. im starting to stray away from a nos set up just because im being told its not a good idea to do to a car i need everyday for work.

on normal driving conditions the difference in MPG between n/a and F/I is insignificant as long as the car us properly tuned.

the problem is that with a supercharger, who is actually going to baby it for 90 miles a day? just like a loud exaust....you punch the pedal just to hear it:D

Can't argue that, but mileage didn't change much on my car after the Eaton swap, provided I keep my foot out of it....;)

I went from 21 1/2 stock to 22 1/2 with the Trilogy kit. Something even more weird, I picked up 23 1/2 after my aggressive tune! Go figure.

It takes a lot less fuel to get up to speed.

You just don't have to be into the throttle as long to get up to highway speed. When the 0-60 time drops from the 7sec to 4sec range you end up keeping your foot out of it for 3sec less every time you have to stop at a light. :burnout:

Every major mod takes a small hit on the fuel mileage, it's when you have them all that it adds up. I'm getting 14-19mpg now with: Trilogy, 4.10's, Headers, 9.5" 2800stall convertor, built trans, CAI, 8.5:1 compression forged motor. The convertor and compression drop seemed to have the biggest effect on mileage, with the blower at a close 3rd.
 
Nitrous is great stuff.

I've blown up way more things over the years with forced induction than I did with nitrous. Its all about supporting hardware. Making sure you have the proper things. I had it on numerous vehicles and done install/tuning for quite a few. Its easy stuff.

Make sure you listen to the people that have actually ran nitrous and won races. Not the ones that have watched fast and the furious and call it NAWS.

Lol I was going to use it for street & highway play. (on safe roads of course)
 
I'm building my eaton parts list now though. Either way SC or Nitrous I have high miles. Any adder is going to stress it.
