squeaky hood reprise

Gentlemen, The Ford part number for the rubber hood bumper that fits perfectly on the MM and CV of similar vintage is N807055S. It was found under the 96 Ranger parts listing. They are exactly what the hood needs. They fit into the slots on the fender and mate to the angled face of the inner hood panel positioned exactly on top of the slot. Steve
 
Just verified that as a good Ford #.
Ill order a few and report the results.

I pick them up yesterday from ford, $4 a piece, not bad. I see where they go, like the were made for panther cars, but is the hood supposed to shut ON them? I mean the sharp under-sides of the hood, like the pinch-weld shuts ON them. Almost thought the hood cut them in half when I did the 1st hood shut with them installed. But when a opened the hood again they seemed fine, no cuts or scratches.

I thought hood guides/bumpers were supposed to just keep the hood centered when shut, thus stopping the side to side shake and not speaking rubbing on the hood bump stops on top of the radiator support.

I used the Ford Expedition bumpers -- Ford Part Number -N804384-S (comes in a package of two for $8.40 back in 2007).

I just went through the dreaded squeak last week. It comes back every few months and drives me nuts. Each time I clean out the grease in and around the main hood latch and re-grease it well. That does it but it is a messy job to have to do 2 - 3 times a year. It is amazing how rapid the squeak is and how impossibly annoying it is. The best place to hear it is in a parking garage at 5 miles an hour!

How can these side bumpers quell the latch squeak - simply by holding the hood more steady?

Yep ^^^^ but it is not really a perfect cure. I tend to latch as well. When it starts to annoy me, I just crank up the volume on the CD player. ;)
 
I just recrank up the little adjusters time to time. The hood sits a wee bit high but is atleast quite! I'll have to look into these.
 
Most of the squeak comes from the hinges closest to the windshield, and probably no one but me ever lubricates those :rolleyes:
