Transmission Slipped out of Gear?

unclebuck

Central FL-Sunshine State Marauders
In my '04 I was excellerating onto I-4 and at about 65-headed toward 85 or so when I felt something like a small bump (I didn't hit anything) and the Trans let go, the engine reved way up. I got out of the gas immediately, coasted to the next exit and when I stopped at the light, I was in 1st gear. I took off, slowly, it shifted into 2nd and when it got to about 35 MPH it slipped out of gear again. I limped home with only 1st & 2nd gears.
I do have a Reinhart Tune in an Xcalibrator II, stock gears. Only Intake and Exhaust mods + Chip.
I have never 'buried the needle', drag raced or done burnouts (am I boring or what?!) I do jump on it once in a while, for medicinal purposes only, but don't get it out where I can really do much MPH. I have 10,150 miles
HELP!
Any ideas? Happen to anyone else?
I'm waiting for the tow truck to take it to the dealership right now.
NOT the way I wanted to spend Saturday morning.

10-4 run more/stock tune

Thank you for the advise.
I do need to run it more.
As soon as I limped into the driveway, I got my Xcalibrator II out and put the Stock Tune back into it. Then ran it a little just to be sure.
I am one of many with this same tune, so is this just the luck of the draw for me to have this problem, is it not enough miles, is it the tune?

I have had the same tune for a couple years. I have never looked into seeing if Reinhart or SCT have made any improvements I can download.
Anybody have any suggestions about Updates to an old tune?
Reianhart's was closed today by the time I started messing with this thing so I couldn't call them.
Does SCT have a website and downloads?
I confess, I do take it out of Overdrive a fair amount of the time. Could that have something to do with the problem do you think?

Althought you have the '04 Tranny, and me the "03, contrare to whomever, when you want to go WOT or if you anticipant doing so, you should down shift it to 3rd by taking it out of 4th(OD)......tranny's are always better going from 3 -2 than 4-2.....I don't think that was your problem--I twisted by tranny's tail-shaft into two pieces--but the '03 tranny were not strong anyway-----the '04's (stock) were suppose to be stronger--My opinion is that all the stocks were a bit fragile-----to a point--so if any build-ups are taking place you shoud consider the tranny as well----no problem since mine was fixed......hope all works out well for you my friend-----------Tom

Post edit point:--You might want to use the search button for tranny problems--slippage or breakage---you can get alot more info---

I know this is a dumb question to ask, but are you shure that the transmission has enough fluid?
Sounds like mine when I lost some trans fluid.

Yes, check the fluid before you go too far. And the OD band will only affect you in OD. 1-3 will still work if your OD band is bad.

Just got my X Cal2 Friday and from 3rd to 4th, 4th to 3rd, ( that in between gear) it feels as though my transmission is going to fall out. I have played with it and every combo of set ups. I can't figure it out and it's always the same. like the transmission just can't make up it's mind which gear to be in.
I want it back to stock.

As a foot note, I have changed all the parameters under shift pressures but not under the diff't WOT settings. What are those settings for? There wasn't a manuel with mine, and the CD that came with it does not explain it either.

I love the power but can't handle the way my car now shifts.

Shifting hard is good.

WOT are the shifts at wide open throtrle, as opposed to partial throttle. You may also have the torque modulation settings to change, try going to zero on those.

Did you save the stock tune prior to changing the values ?

Sounds like the 2-3 accumulator piston is damaged.
This is a common failure associated with 4r70w's.
Only a small piece of the outer seal has to be damaged for 3rd and 4th not to work.
This just happened to me a few weeks ago on my KB car. Although I have not ripped it down to prove this actually happened, Im 99.9% sure its the case.
The valve body needs to be dropped down and the accumulator needs to be replaced.

So... each time I make a change I need to reset everything back to stock first? Then, no I did not.

If my accumulator piston is damaged, it just happened then, because it was fine before the tune.

I did call yesterday and was told there may have been an era in the tune, and to call back sometime Thursday. We should be able to resolve it then.

Sonds like a programming error Rauderboi.
Just send it back or get a new file via Extreme tune.

A new program is being e-mailed to me today. I hope. I'm anxious for this car to run the way I had hoped. Right now I'm thinking I want my car back to stock. Around town driving, I MUST turn the overdrive off. Anything in that 30-40 mph.range the car just doesn't know which gear or direction it needs to be going. It goes into 4th just fine, but if you back off just a little bit into 3rd and then give it a little more throttle back into 4th... hold on. You'd swear the underneath of your car was going to fall out, including the motor. No I'm not making this sound worse than it is.

Who'd you get it from? Get them to send you the .xtr file.

That was for buck. You are getting confused.

Mods, can you move Rauderboi's info and replies to a fresh thread so we can help them both without confusion?
Thanx
