Your First Car

What was your first car?? I'm not talking about the first car you drove. I mean the first car you could call your own.

Mine was a 65' Mustang....It was a pile, It was a primer burgundy and leaked oil like a mother...Seemed to me that I only got like 9 or 10 miles to the gallon in it too, and the interior was shot. Later I sold it for a very nice price to a guy who said he wanted to restore it. He told me it was actually a 64 1/2 mustang (still to this day don't know what that means) But he wanted it real bad.

1965 Mustang coupe 289 with a 4 speed in 1968. Ford made some changes around August of 1965 to the Mustang so the ones built before are referred to as 19641/2 in the mustang hobby. All are titled as 1965 models.

I had a 1984 For Escort Model L.

Total POS...but it serverd it's purpose. ;)

KillJoy

1962 MGA, new POS. My first clue that the gals in my area didn't know what a real chick magnet was. Fun in summer, PIA big time in Maine winters. didn't last long...but a slow learner here. Later in life bought a beautiful MGTD. Wish I still had that one. Dennis:)

When I was 15, I bought a 1974 Malibu Laguna for $250.00 that ran and drove. It needed tires and an exhaust. The gas in the tank was rank so my Dad followed me home on back roads with a plastic boat gas tank and I had to keep pumping the bulb to keep the carb full. The car was anti-glare blue and wouldn't even shine when it was wet. It was a straight-6 and automatic and had NO options. No radio, A/C, or power goodies. The rubber around the door glass was so dry-rotted that rain came in even with the windows up. I drove it to school and work until a lady in a Chevy Celebrity made a left in front of me. I put house carpet in it and a radio that smoked.

1964 VW Beetle. 500 bucks in 1971.
Learned a lot about cars (the hard way) with that puppy...
First new car?
1974 Mustang Pinto, err, I mean II.

First owned a 1958 Ford 4 door. Couldn't get enough bondo into it to pass safety inspection, so my dad gave it away for parts. Firdt legal ride was a 1974 Plymoth Duster. 198 c.i. slant six, 3 on the floor, wide tires on the back, I put this car through hell. Blew 2 clutches, hit several objects, got it stuck in the woods. Finally, after 158K miles, I blew a hole in the side of the block that a softball fit in. Sold it for $75, crumpled fenders, body rot, bent frame and all.

Does your first car have to run? If not then mine was a 1931Pontiac sedan.
towed it home and put it in our coral. There it sat for over a year. Sold it for
50 bucks. Went out and bought a 37 dodge 4 door. That too went into the coral. But this one ran. Taught myself how to shift, use the gas and brake.
All was fine till I ran thru the coral fence. First street car was a 54 buick special. Nice car.

1973 Ford Country Sedan Wagon. That's right...8 passenger to boot. 400 CID w/ C6, pulled like a train. Bought it from my dad in '78, drove it until '85. Burned alot of fuel, but never a drop of oil. I wish I still had it.

1978 Pontiac Firebird, 305, automatic and bone stock with about 100,000 miles on it. Bought it myself shortly after my 16th birthday, paid my own gas and insurance.

1972 Ford galaxie 500, 351w, 2bbl. Lime green, vinyl roof, called a hard top convertible. 2 door, am radio, power front disc brakes. Great car. Wish I still had her.

78 Monty Carlo. Wrecked it and bought a 79 Monty Carlo. I combined both cars and had a very unique combination. The only bluew monty with a red interior. I liked it anyway.

Sad part is, I do not have any pics of it :(

My first car was a graduation gift before graduation...a hand me down 72 (I think) Volvo 244, 4 door. Dark Tan/Yellow and in very nice shape for its age, this was in '83. Of course I really liked the car but foolish kid that I was I totaled it while taking an unauthorized day off from school :shake: Dad was NOT happy!

I was on my own after that fiasco so I bought a 72 Galaxie 500, 2 door, 351 auto, drove it into the ground and moved on to many other Galaxies from there...I wish I still had the 68 XL Ragtop........
